Tallahassee International Airport Exercise
On February 16, the NFMRC participated in the Tallahassee International Airport Exercise. The exercise simulated an aircraft crash with a large number of casualties. During the event, NFMRC volunteers assisted with set-up of the temporary morgue on site, provided behavioral health and first aid services in the family reunification center, and assisted with public health logistics in the Emergency Operations Center.
On February 5, NFMRC volunteers handed out water and energy gel at mile 25 of the Tallahassee Marathon and one member was available at the finish line to provide medical assistance, if needed. Congratulations to all who finished the marathon!
As flu season approaches, the NFMRC assists the Florida Department of Health in Leon County at numerous flu clinics around Leon County. Flu clinics are intended to provide a convenient opportunity for clients to receive their yearly flu vaccination. The NFMRC places both clerical and nursing volunteers at the flu clinics where help is needed.
At school health screenings, NFMRC volunteers assist the school nurse with checking students' vision, hearing, and weight, as well as help with clerical work. Annual school health screenings play an important role in childhood health, and our volunteers are happy to be able to assist in the process.
